Plan a Guidance Session in 35 Minutes
A compact flow for opening a safe space for discovery through preparation, activity, sharing, and a small next step.
Original practice suggestion · Awaiting expert review
Prepare | 5 minutes
Choose one small aim: noticing an interest, questioning an assumption, or writing a new question. Put this sentence on the board: “Today we are not choosing a career; we are collecting one clue.”
Pencils, blank paper, and a timer are enough. You may use Clues in an Ordinary Day or Change Your Career Lens as a starting point; review examples for the group's age and language as a PDR professional before using them in class.
- State at the start that passing, drawing, or speaking instead of writing are all allowed.
- Do not request names, scores, diagnoses, family histories, or other student data.
- Complete local PDR professional review before using this original draft in a classroom.
Opening and activity | 20 minutes
Give a five-minute example: “Yesterday I enjoyed choosing colors while arranging a friend's presentation.” Ask learners to write or draw three things: what they did, what felt good, and which skill they used.
Allow ten minutes for individual work and five for optional pair sharing. A learner may stay quiet. Not finding a job label is fine; ask where the same clue could be tried again at school, at home, or in a club.
Debrief | 7 minutes
Invite volunteers to share only the clue, not a personal story. Questions such as “Which part made you curious?” and “Where else could it be useful?” open the experience instead of searching for one correct career.
Do not collect, photograph, or turn responses into a class list. This is not a test of ability, personality, or career fit; reflect the student's question back rather than drawing conclusions about them.
Close and next step | 3 minutes
Learners may complete: “This week I would like to try this on a small scale: …” The experiment can be reading a club notice, asking an adult one question, or using a skill for ten minutes.
For a learner or family wanting more personal, ongoing exploration, you can show the Reflektif.net link separately. The referral is optional; class participation, account creation, and platform use are never conditions.
